US lawmakers reaffirming Arunachal Pradesh as an integral part of India via bill
US Senators Bill Hagerty and Oregon's Jeff Merkley have introduced a bipartisan Senate resolution reaffirming America's recognition of Arunachal Pradesh as an integral part of India.
The resolution comes in response to the recent clashes between India and China in the Eastern Sector along the Line of Actual Control, and seeks to condemn additional provocations from the People's Republic of China such as the use of military force to alter the status quo and expansion of PRC territorial claims in Bhutan.
The resolution also commends the Indian government for taking steps to defend itself against aggression and security threats from the People's Republic of China. The issue of the status of Arunachal Pradesh has been a matter of contention between India and China for several years. Arunachal Pradesh is a northeastern Indian state that shares a border with China, and China has claimed that the region is part of its territory.
The United States has generally recognized Arunachal Pradesh as a part of India, and U.S. lawmakers have made statements in the past affirming this position.
