UN Secretary-General António Guterres criticized the air strike that is said to have killed at least 22 people in Sudan on Saturday, according to a statement issued by a spokesperson early on Sunday.
As the conflict between the country's military factions entered its 12th week, the Sudanese army launched an airstrike on the western city of Omdurman, killing at least 22 people and injuring dozens more, according to a statement from the state health ministry in Khartoum on Saturday.
As per Farhan Haq’s statement, the secretary-general's deputy spokesperson, the reports of widespread violence and casualties in Sudan's Darfur area appall the secretary-general as well.
"He is also concerned about reports of renewed fighting in North Kordofan, South Kordofan, and Blue Nile States. There is an utter disregard for humanitarian and human rights law that is dangerous and disturbing," it added.
Guterres underlined his demand that the opposing Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese Armed Forces put an end to violence and pledge to a long-lasting cessation of hostilities.
