A man has tragically died following a collision between two trains on Monday evening in Powys, Wales. The British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed that the incident occurred near Llanbrynmair, despite both trains travelling at low speeds. The crash left 15 passengers requiring hospital treatment.
Emergency Response and Investigation
The incident took place shortly before 7pm, involving two passenger services operated by Transport for Wales. One service was travelling from Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth, while the other was en route from Machynlleth to Shrewsbury. Emergency services, including paramedics and fire crews, responded promptly to the scene, and all passengers were safely evacuated.
BTP Superintendent Andrew Morgan expressed condolences to the victim’s family, adding that a full investigation is underway to determine the cause of the collision. "Specialist officers are supporting the man's family, and we are working closely with emergency services and the rail industry to understand what led to this tragic event," Morgan said.
Non-Life-Threatening Injuries for 15 Passengers
Authorities have confirmed that while 15 people were treated in the hospital for injuries, none of them suffered life-threatening or life-altering injuries.
Transport for Wales and Network Rail issued a joint statement offering their sympathies to the victim’s family and commending the efforts of the emergency responders. The statement emphasized their commitment to fully supporting the investigation.

Authorities, including the BTP, will continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision. An increased police presence will remain in the area in the coming days as the investigation progresses.
