The famous, finest working and huge sword of the Mysore ruler, Tipu Sultan, sold at a price of Rs. 143 Crore at Bonhamas auction hall, London, as a part of Islamic and Indian Art. This bedchamber sword was sold at a price of 7 times greater than what was expected.
Tipu Sultan died in 1799 in the fourth Anglo - Mysore war. After that war, his sword was collected by the British and it was rewarded to Major General David Baird for showing courage in the war.
This is the greatest and closest thing that Tipu Sultan had, which has the finest craftwork. It has the words 'ruler's sword' carved in gold. It has a very great history and, no doubt because of that, it has received the highest ever amount.
