TikTok trend went wrong, causing a 16-year-old boy to suffer third-degree burns

A teenager from North Carolina suffered severe burns on 80% of his body while attempting a viral TikTok challenge to create a makeshift torch using a spray paint can and a lighter. This dangerous stunt caused an explosion, resulting in third-degree burns on his back. The boy's mother described him as unrecognizable after the incident.

In an attempt to soothe his burns, he jumped into a nearby river, which worsened his condition and increased the risk of infection. He is currently receiving treatment at the UNC Burn Centre and has undergone several surgeries to receive skin grafts. Although the family is hopeful for his recovery, the boy is expected to be hospitalized for at least six months. This incident serves as a warning to others to avoid such dangerous stunts that can cause serious harm.
