Despite the fact that notorious Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar passed over thirty years ago, his legacy still plagues the nation. He was the man who started the Medelln drug cartel in the 1980s and was responsible for a number of kidnappings, murders, and bombings. Not only that, though. The famed hippos of the "lord of cocaine" are also to blame for a "ecological timebomb". And they may possibly travel to India.
Escobar, who was once among the richest individuals in the world, unlawfully brought a herd of hippopotamuses into his private estate from a zoo in the US. It included a menagerie that was home to hippos as well as zebras, giraffes, and flamingos, among other creatures.
Most of the animals were transferred in 1993, after the drug lord was slain. not the hippos, though. They were rejected as being too challenging to manage and left behind. Officials anticipated their deaths, but they did not occur.
The enormous beasts increased in population and began to appear outside of Escobar's Hacienda Napoles property, which is situated 200 kilometres from Bogota along the Magdalena River and a few neighbouring small lakes. They have increased in number to over 100 over time, and they now pose a threat to the country's ecosystem.
