According to a war monitor, a drone strike in government-held Homs on Thursday resulted in the deaths of more than 100 people at a Syrian military academy. State media blamed the drone strike on "terrorist organisations."
Separately, Turkish airstrikes in the northeast of the war-torn nation, which is controlled by Kurdish forces, claimed the lives of at least nine people, according to Kurdish troops. Ankara was threatening the raids as punishment for the bombing.
According to an army statement published by the official news agency SANA, "armed terrorist organisations" attacked "the graduation ceremony for officers of the military academy" in the central Syrian city of Homs, causing the deaths of many.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a British-based watchdog with a broad network of informants on the ground, revised up the earlier death toll to "more than 100 dead, around half of them military graduates, and including 14 civilians."
At least 125 other people were reported injured.
There was no immediate confession of wrongdoing. According to the military statement, the strike was conducted using "explosive-laden drones," and it promised to "respond with full force."
The administration has declared three days of mourning beginning on Friday, According to state television.
