The scientist who created the Sputnik V vaccine, Andrey Botikov has been murdered. He was a virologist at Gamaleya National Research Institute. Botikov was honored by Putin with the ‘Order of Merit for the Fatherland' award in 2021 for his contribution to the Sputnik V Covid vaccine.
It is speculated that he was killed with a belt after an argument with an intruder at his house. His body was discovered on Thursday, at his residence in Moscow. The body had stab wounds and abrasions all over. There were also strangle signs on his neck.
The Investigative Committee of Russia (ICR) is investigating the case. A 29-year-old man named "Alexey Zmanovsky," who was imprisoned for ten years on allegations of offering sexual services, has been suspected of the murder and is taken into custody.
