Rikkie Valerie Kolle becomes first Trans model to win Miss Netherlands

Rikkie Valerie Kolle made history as the first trans woman to win the Miss Netherlands 2023 title, securing her place as a contestant in the 72nd Miss Universe competition. She expresses her happiness and shares crowned pictures along with the caption, "I did it!" on Instagram. The 22-year-old Dutch-Moluccan model, Rikkie Valerie Kolle, emerged victorious over Habiba Mostafa, Lou Dirchs, and Nathalie Mogbelzada at a glamorous ceremony in Amsterdam. This groundbreaking win secures her position as a contestant in the highly sought-after 72nd Miss Universe competition. This is the first time a transgender woman has won a beauty pageant.

On Instagram, she expressed her joy and pride in her inspiring journey by sharing heartfelt words: "I am incredibly proud and happy, words cannot fully describe it. I have made my community proud and shown that it can be achieved."According to Rikkie's finalist page, she hails from the city of Breda and has Dutch and Indigenous Moluccan heritage. Born as a biological male, Rikkie aims to be a voice and role model for young women and the LGBTQ+ community. She plans to utilize her platform to empower others in the fight against discrimination. The upcoming Miss Universe pageant is scheduled to be held in El Salvador later this year. 
Notably, Rikkie is the second transgender model to participate in a beauty pageant. Angela Ponce, representing Spain in 2018, was the first openly transgender contestant in the pageant's history.
