Poland : WHO reports high number of bird flu cases in cats

High numbers of cats have been infected in Geneva, for a few weeks now. The cats in Geneva, Poland have been severely infested with a specific kind of “Bird Flu”, which is widespread in the country. The World Health Organization on Monday mentioned that the risk of human transfer of this flu is very minimal as of now.

WHO has reported that over 29 cats have tested positive for a virus strain H5N1, which took the lives of several cats across the country. Out of this, 14 cats were euthanized to prevent the spread of the virus to other cats in the city.

Although since the year 2020, there have been 12 incidental cases of the human H5N1 virus, however, there seems to be no risk of transfer of this virus to humans, from the cats in the time being.
