 Haha! GOT YOU!

A recent report has clarified the true origin of this stunning display. There is infact, a science behind this ‘mesmerising spectacle’. It is Isaribi Kochu.

The whole concept of "Isaribi Kochu," often misunderstood as an extraterrestrial event, is actually a natural occurrence, a spectacle deeply ingrained in the cultural fabric of Japan's coastal regions.

"Isaribi Kochu” is linked to squid fishing in Japan. It literally translates into “fishing Fires,” a practical fishing technique used by local fishermen. It occurs when fishermen use bright lights, or "isaribi," to attract fish during nighttime fishing.

So here’s what happened, Under certain atmospheric conditions, such as low temperatures, crystals may form in the atmosphere above the illuminated fishing boats. As the lights from the fishing vessels illuminate the night sky, they reflect off the ice crystals, creating vertical pillars of light that stretch into the heavens, casting an ethereal glow over the coastal landscape. These lights reflect vertically, forming striking light pillars.

Nine Radiant Pillars

Unreal isn’it?

Overall, the Isaribi Kochu phenomenon is a beautiful mix of human tradition and nature's wonders. This stunning display reminds us how cultural practices can create magical moments in the natural world. The light pillars over Daisen highlight the amazing results when human ingenuity meets nature.
