Pepsi sued in New York over alleged plastic, water pollution & harm to wildlife

New York's Attorney General Letitia James took a stand against PepsiCo Inc., filing a lawsuit accusing the giant of harming the environment and public health.

Single-use plastics from PepsiCo, Frito-Lay Inc., and Frito-Lay North America Inc. were discovered along Buffalo River's shores, contaminating the city's water supply.

James emphasized that no corporation is too big to evade responsibility for environmental damage, stating that everyone deserves clean water.

The lawsuit highlights PepsiCo as a major contributor to plastic waste in the Buffalo River, with 17.1% of identified plastic waste linked to the company.

Microplastics, found in fish species in Lake Erie and Buffalo River, pose health risks.

This legal action aims not only for cleanup but also for PepsiCo to warn consumers about the environmental and health risks of its packaging, halt further contribution to the plastic nuisance, and devise plans to reduce single-use plastics entering the river.

Buffalo's community, which fought for years to restore the river's health, refuses to let pollution return.

Despite PepsiCo's pledges to cut plastic use, the lawsuit claims the opposite is true.

Requests for comment from PepsiCo were unanswered, and the lawsuit seeks penalties and restitution for their actions.
