Pakistan May be Going Bankrupt but its Tim Hortons Has Long Queues

On February 10, the famed Canadian coffee chain Tim Hortons opened its first store in Pakistan's Lahore, drawing a record number of customers. The internet is filled with images and videos of long lines of people waiting for their coffee. With the opening of Pakistan's first Tim Hortons location in Lahore, some websites even claimed that the chain set a new world record for highest sales in its 61-year history.

As Pakistan's inflation reaches a 45-year high, the country is on the verge of bankruptcy. When Tom Hortons opened its first and flagship location in Phase 6, DHA Lahore over the weekend, there was a long line outside the renowned Canadian coffee shop. As of February 9, Pakistan's forex reserves had fallen below $3 billion, a nine-year low. This puts Pakistan's economy in a bad spot. The Pakistani rupee (PKR), the country's currency, fell to a record low, and fuel prices left local consumers struggling to make ends meet.
