Over 300 individuals were detained at a rally held at the U.S. Capitol, organized by Jewish Voice for Peace and IfNotNow.
The rally was centred on urging a ceasefire in Gaza and condemning Israel for actions in the region.
These groups have criticized Israel and accused it of human rights violations following the events that began when Hamas breached the Israeli border.
In response, Israel initiated airstrikes on Gaza and declared war on Hamas, leading to casualties on both sides.
This rally in Washington, which saw around 10,000 participants inside and outside the Capitol, coincided with President Joe Biden's visit to Israel, during which humanitarian aid for Gaza civilians was discussed.
Israel has also called up a large number of military reservists and is expected to launch a ground invasion of the Gaza Strip.
The protest aimed to draw attention to what organizers see as U.S. complicity in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and to demand an end to what they consider oppression.
Various U.S. Representatives, including Rashida Tlaib, Cori Bush, and Ayanna Pressley, spoke at the rally.
The protest was part of a series of events sponsored by these groups, including one that occurred earlier at the White House, leading to arrests for blocking entrances.
While this rally represented one perspective, there have been other pro-Israel rallies across the United States, involving tens of thousands of supporters.
It's important to note that views on this matter within the Jewish community vary widely, and not all members of the community share the same perspective.
The arrests took place because protests were not allowed within the Capitol building.
