Operation Ajay: India's attempt to bring home nationals from war-hit Israel

India has initiated Operation Ajay to assist its citizens in Israel during the ongoing conflict with the Hamas group in Gaza.

Approximately 18,000 Indians reside in Israel, and the Indian government is dedicated to ensuring their safety and well-being abroad. Special charter flights and other arrangements are being organized for their return.

Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar expressed the government's commitment to the operation, stating, "Fully committed to the safety and well-being of our nationals abroad." The Indian embassy in Israel has started notifying the first group of registered Indian citizens, who will be boarding a special flight to India. Additional notifications will follow for subsequent flights.

As the conflict intensifies in the region, Israel has formed an emergency government to manage the situation. The recent attacks by Hamas on Israeli civilians prompted a significant response, resulting in a high casualty count over the past five days. Israel has conducted extensive airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, where Hamas holds control, and has also positioned its military forces near the Palestinian enclave, potentially preparing for a ground invasion.

In addition to the conflict with Hamas, Israel faced threats on multiple fronts, including clashes with the Iran-backed Shiite militant group, Hezbollah, along its northern border with Lebanon. Hezbollah fired missiles at Israel, and the Israeli military responded by targeting one of the group's military observation posts in southern Lebanon. Israel also engaged in skirmishes with militants in Syria when munitions were launched toward the Golan Heights.

The situation remains tense in the region as international efforts to address the conflict continue.
