Northern Afghanistan: about 80 primary school girls were poisoned and hospitalised

Two separate attacks at respective primary schools in northern Afghanistan resulted in the poisoning of about 80 girls, who were then hospitalized, according to a local education official on Sunday. This assault is said to be the first of its kind since the Taliban took control in August 2021 and began to limit the rights and freedoms of Afghan women and girls. The majority of workplaces and public locations do not allow women entry, and females are not allowed to continue their education past the sixth grade, including at colleges.

The education official claimed, without going into detail, that the person who poisoned the food had a personal vendetta. On Saturday and Sunday, there were attacks in the province of Sar-e-Pul. In the Sangcharak area, some 80 female students were poisoned, according to Mohammad Rahmani, director of the provincial department of education.According to him, 17 more students at Naswan-e-Faizabad School and 60 more at Naswan-e-Kabod Aab School had been poisoned.

According to him, attacks on the nearby primary schools occurred one after the other. The students were brought to the hospital, and they are currently all in good condition. The department's ongoing investigation's early conclusions, in accordance with Rahmani, point to someone with a grudge paying a third party to carry out the attacks. He didn't speak about the girls' wounds or their poisoning.

Rahmani mentioned that they were in grades 1 through 6, but she did not give any age information. A spate of poisonings, particularly in girls' schools, has been plaguing Iran's neighbors since last November. The poisonous vapors from the accidents were said to have made many students sick. However, it is unclear whether any chemicals have been used or who might be at fault for the mishaps.
