North Korea and Moscow's arms deal? Kim Jong Un to meet Putin in Russia

This meeting is certain to draw attention from around the globe. Kim Jong Un, the supreme leader of North Korea, will visit Russia this month and will meet with Vladimir Putin, according to the United States.

The two global leaders' meeting suggests a significant strengthening of military ties between Russia and North Korea as Moscow's occupying forces strive to contain a counteroffensive launched by Ukraine. Both presidents are widely regarded as dictators.

According to CBS News on Monday, American authorities have confirmed that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un intends to visit Russia this month to meet with President Vladimir Putin.

According to the officials, the North Korean leader would travel from Pyongyang to Vladivostok on Russia's east coast, likely by armoured train, where he would meet with Putin.

Speaking on behalf of the US National Security Council on Monday, Adrienne Watson said that the meeting will be related to continuing negotiations over arms exchanges between the two nations.

“As we have warned publicly, arms negotiations between Russia and the DPRK are actively advancing,” Watson said. “We have information that Kim Jong Un expects these discussions to continue, to include leader-level diplomatic engagement in Russia,” she added.

The US has sanctioned both Russia and North Korea for their talks on arms and ammunition, which takes place while Moscow looks to other nations for weapons for their ongoing war against Ukraine. According to the officials, Putin wants Kim to promise to supply Russia with anti-tank missiles and artillery shells, while Kim wants Russia to give North Korea advanced technology for satellites and nuclear-powered submarines. Kim is also looking for food aid for his country.
