No More Birth Control In Afghanistan: Taliban Calls It Western Conspiracy
The sale of contraceptives has been prohibited in Afghanistan's two largest cities by the Taliban, who claim that doing so is part of a "western conspiracy to control the Muslim population." Door-to-door visits, threats against midwives, and prohibitions on the sale of birth control products and devices by pharmacies are all tactics used by the Taliban.
This is the Taliban's most recent assault on women's rights since they swept to power in August 2021. Since then, the group has outlawed higher education for girls, shut down universities for women, ejected women from their jobs, and limited their freedom of movement.
