Minus 79 degrees!!! Canada and US Reeling Under Severe Cold Wave

Millions of people in the American North-east have been issued wind chill warnings as a result of an Arctic blast, and cities and states have issued emergency warnings. It is threatening to see temperatures down to all-time lows in many places, like Mount Washington in New Hampshire, where the wind chill could reach -110 degrees Fahrenheit (-79 degrees Celsius).

The National Weather Service announced on Saturday that parts of the north-east and coastal mid-Atlantic will experience temperatures 10-30 degrees below average, with wind gusts of up to 40-55 mph (64-88 km/h). The agency added that the blast's wind chills may be unprecedented in a generation.

Cold wave hits Canada

According to an advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS), the mass of frigid air would maintain temperatures at life-threatening levels through Saturday, resulting in "extremely dangerous" conditions.

Due to concerns about the possibility of children suffering from hypothermia and frostbite while they waited for buses or walked to school, Boston and Worcester, the two largest cities in New England, were among the school districts that were closed on Friday.

Kathy Hochul, the governor of New York, issued a warning to residents on Thursday urging them to use space heaters with caution.

She stated, "This weekend, New Yorkers across the state will experience dangerously low temperatures and wind chills that could kill them. Preparation time has arrived: This weekend, plan to spend less time outside and know where to find shelter. If you intend to use an alternative source of heat, such as a space heater, exercise caution and take all the necessary precautions to ensure that your home is heated safely."
