On 23rd October 2022, a mini tornado hit Bihucourt, a village near the northern France port of Calais and behind a trail of destruction. This tornado hit after the country experienced a spell of unseasonably warm weather. It left one person injured and damaged dozens of homes. A lot of footage was shared on social media that showed a huge black cloud swirling up in the form of a tornado above the skies in the Bihucourt commune.
There was also an accident involving a heavy goods vehicle in the village of Croisilles. About 50 homes were damaged, and 2 families had to be relocated. A farming building in the municipality also collapsed due to the tornado. The electricity in the area also went down, and this calamity also ripped the roof off a church, and with a destroyed home, debris was strewn across the road.
Jacques Brillant, the representative for Pas-de-Calais, also visited the town alongside firefighters and paramilitary police. On Sunday night, the local authority stated that the situation was under control and the firefighters and police ensured a continuous presence throughout the night in the area. France's interior minister Gerald Darmanin wrote on Twitter that, "The East and North of France suffered heavy storms. Several municipalities in the area were affected by the tornado, causing significant damage and violent bad weather. She felt very sympathetic towards the affected municipalities.
The local authority in Pas-de-Calais has advised people to stay at home and not work on roofs, and not touch fallen electrical wires.
