The weather agency reported that this year September in Japan was the hottest since records began 125 years ago. The Japan Meteorological Agency reported on Monday that the burning month of September had an average temperature that was 2.66 degrees Celsius (36.78 degrees Fahrenheit) higher than usual.
This was "the highest figure since the start of statistics in 1898", the agency said in a statement.
The average temperature jump of 2.66 degrees was “extraordinary” and “easily topped previous highs”, weather agency official Masayuki Hirai said on Tuesday. “If this is not an abnormally high temperature, I don’t know what is,” he added.
As climate change intensifies this year is predicted to be the warmest in recorded human history; nations including Austria, France, Germany, Poland, and Switzerland have all reported their hottest Septembers.
According to the French weather service Meteo-France, the country's average September temperature will be approximately 21.5 degrees Celsius, which is between 3.5C and 3.6C higher than the 1991-2020 reference period.
The UK has also surpassed its previous mark for the warmest September since records began in 1884.
