Alibaba Group co-founder and Chinese billionaire Jack Ma caused a sensation with his unannounced and unforeseen visit to Pakistan. Former Board of Investment (BOI) chairman Muhammad Azfar Ahsan confirmed Jack Ma's visit to Pakistan to the source, saying the Chinese business magnate arrived in Lahore on June 29 and stayed there for 23 hours. Jack Ma did not contact any representatives of the press or the government when he was in Pakistan. The millionaire stayed at a discreet place and flew away on June 30. Jet Aviation owned the private aircraft, which was registered as VP-CMA.
Pakistan's good days ahead?
Despite the fact that the reason for Jack Ma's visit is now unknown, there is still hope that it may eventually benefit Pakistan, according to Ahsan, as reported. Ma had been joined by a group of seven businesspeople, including one American, one Danish, and five Chinese nationals. The team flew on a chartered aeroplane from Hong Kong's corporate aviation industry to Pakistan from Nepal. There are several rumours circulating on social media platforms regarding Ma and his team visiting trade hubs, meeting influential businesspeople, and looking at business prospects in the struggling economy of the nation. No official has, however, confirmed any specific meetings or commercial agreements.
Ahsan explained in a tweet that Jack Ma's visit was only for personal reasons. He said that it was remarkable that Ma's visit and commitments in Pakistan were not disclosed to the Chinese embassy. According to P@SHA Chairman Zohaib Khan, "Although it was a personal visit, it helped improve Pakistan's reputation from a tourism standpoint." Khan continued by saying that the Pakistani government's officials should have taken advantage of the chance to meet with Jack Ma in order to learn from the billionaire's extensive knowledge of the IT industry. He claimed that even a single word made by Jack Ma on Pakistan's IT industry would have had a huge effect.
