Israeli airstrikes have destroyed large parts of Lebanon in the past few days, particularly the southern suburb of Beirut called Dahiyeh. Three residential buildings were reportedly destroyed overnight adding to the already mounting destruction. Lebanon's Health Ministry confirmed that 36 people were killed and more than 150 injured in these attacks. The area of Dahiyeh, which has long been considered a stronghold of Hezbollah, is now the site of widespread damage. The intensity of the airstrikes has left thousands of people displaced, as homes and infrastructure are reduced to rubble.
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has issued a stern warning to Lebanon stating that , the country could face destruction on a similar scale as of Gaza if the conflict continues. Israeli military operations within Lebanon, which already expanded to Bekaa Valley, will continue until the military capabilities of Hezbollah 'are uprooted'. Netanyahu remarks came after the Hezbollah acting leader Sheikh Naim Kassem delivered a defiant speech promising to continue fighting against Israel. Despite suffering serious casualties including the killing of the group's top commander, Hassan Nasrallah.
Hezbollah Blasts Back with Rocket Attacks
Hezbollah has also fired several rocket attacks toward Israel as revenge for the hits by Israeli attacks. The northern port city of Haifa in Israel bore the brunt of the attacks, as more than 170 rockets from Lebanon hit the town. Schools have been closed in Haifa since the threat level has risen to the danger point, while civilians flee for shelter.
This regional war and conflict between Israel and Hezbollah have left Hundreds of thousands people displaced within Lebanon and other cites. The shelters and hospitals are full. Health services are overwhelmed and critical medical facilities in both Gaza and Lebanon are being targeted by military forces. Both sides continue war and as a result, the humanitarian situation worsens in the region.
