Gaza restores limited internet and phone access as generators receive fuel supply

Phone and internet services in Gaza were largely restored on Friday, according to Paltel, the Palestinian telecom provider, after fuel was supplied to restart the generators that power the networks.

Internet outage tracker NetBlocks verified that internet connectivity was "partially restored" in the Gaza Strip.

Paltel declared on Thursday that a shortage of fuel had caused the suspension of all communication services, including Internet, mobile, and landline connections.

The following day, Israel approved the entry of two tanker trucks carrying 60,000 litres (15,850 gallons) of fuel per day into the Gaza Strip.

The enclave's communications network will be powered by 10,000 litres of the daily intake, according to a U.S. State Department official.

Until this past week, Israel had strictly restricted fuel imports into Gaza out of concern that Hamas may seize the fuel and turn it against them.

Residents pledge to rebuild Israeli town targeted on Oct 7th

A community in Israel bordering Gaza vowed on Friday to rebuild the homes that Hamas militants destroyed in their attacks on October 7.

Israeli military officials said that twenty people of Netiv HaAsara, which is only 300 metres (yards) from the Gaza border, were killed in an attack when the gunmen used paragliders to get over the concrete border wall.

Hila Fenlon, a 46-year-old resident, gestured to her neighbour's completely destroyed house.

“Obviously, there was no escape from this house,” she said.

“It is a symbol to people who woke up one Saturday morning and vicious terrorists (came) and started to burn everything, to burn their lives down, and our victory will be to rebuild it. Our victory will be to make sure it won’t stay burnt.”

Just as she finished her sentence, an air raid siren went out, causing the visiting residents to fall to the ground while rockets fired from Gaza were seen flying in the sky.
