India Named as 'Foreign Threat' by Canadian Intel Agency, accused of interfering in Elections

In a recent intelligence report, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, the country's top foreign intelligence agency, accused India of potentially interfering with the election. India was identified as a "foreign interference threat" in the assessment, which the media obtained on Thursday. The report also said that the government "must do more to protect Canada's robust democratic institutions and processes."

According to the top-secret briefing document that Global News in Canada was able to get, India's meddling will only get worse if action is not taken. India has never before been charged with meddling in Canadian elections. Charges of involvement in Canadian politics were already being brought against China and Russia.

Canadian intel report alleges India

The released paper, headed 'Briefing to the Minister of Democratic Institutions on Foreign Interference,' dated February 24, 2023, also identifies China as "by far the most significant threat." The breadth of the PRC's FI efforts is wide, and a substantial amount of resources are being used. According to the report, "the activities are significant, widespread, and aimed at all governmental and civil society levels nationwide."

PRC is for the People's Republic of China, and FI stands for foreign intervention. The only two nations mentioned by name in the most recent intelligence report were China and India. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada has requested an investigation into the claims contained in the recently disclosed intelligence assessment.

Following Trudeau's September 2023 accusations of "potential" Indian agent participation in the June 18 murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia, tensions between India and Canada became severely strained. The claims have been rejected by India as "absurd" and "motivated."
