Indian Sharan Karunakaran arrested in Toronto for religion motivated hate-crime

On Sunday, police in Canada arrested and charged a male suspect in connection with a "hate-motivated incident" on Thursday at a mosque in the province of Ontario, in which he allegedly ran towards a worshipper and yelled threats and religious slurs.According to York Regional Police, the incident happened in Markham.


Mary Ng, Canada's Trade Minister, described the incident as a hate crime that had no place in Canadian society.The incident occurred during Ramadan, the Islamic holy month when worshippers flock to mosques. Thousands of people flock to the Markham mosque. 


Police also charged the suspect with making threats, assault with a weapon, and reckless driving. On Tuesday, he is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Newmarket.
