Iranian media reports that an Iranian civilian was killed during an Israeli airstrike near Tehran over the weekend. This is the first civilian casualty Iran has reported following Israeli strikes. Iran had earlier confirmed the loss of four soldiers in these strikes.
Hezbollah and Israel Clash Near Lebanon Border
Israel has been simultaneously engaging with Hezbollah in Lebanon, targeting the border area of Aita al-Shaab. Israel claims to have inflicted heavy losses on Hezbollah, although the organization has not publicly disclosed its casualty figures. Israel has issued evacuation orders for residents in Tyre, southern Lebanon, urging them to move north. Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee confirmed on social media that forceful action against Hezbollah would continue.
Iran’s Response to Israeli Airstrikes
Israel reported targeting missile manufacturing and surface-to-air missile systems in Iran, claiming the attacks damaged Iranian defense and missile production capabilities. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated the strikes successfully weakened Iran’s air defenses, adding that the strikes were both “precise and powerful.” However, Iran said that most missiles were intercepted, causing only minor damage. Amid fears of escalating violence, international leaders have called for restraint. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has proposed a two-day ceasefire in Gaza to facilitate negotiations.
Iran’s Supreme Leader’s X Account Suspended
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s newly created Hebrew-language account on the platform X was suspended after just two posts. The first post, made on Saturday and the second was posted on Sunday, addressed the Israeli airstrikes on Iranian military targets, stating that “The Zionist regime made a mistake…we will make it understand what power, ability, initiative, and desire the Iranian nation has.” Khamenei’s primary X account is often known for strong rhetoric against Israel continues to publish similar posts in Hebrew and other languages.
