17 Murders, 380-760 Years in Jail: The Story of 'Evil Nurse'

In a chilling case, a nurse turns ‘Evil’, a ‘Pure Evil’ killing her patients with insulin overdose, believing she was ending the suffering of a lot of people.

Here’s What Happened

Heather Pressdee, a 41-year-old nurse from Pennsylvania, is being called ‘Pure Evil’ as she has been sentenced to 380-760 years in prison for her role in the deaths of at least 17 patients across five health facilities between 2020 and 2023.

Pressdee, who was found guilty on three counts of first-degree murder and 19 counts of attempted murder, is accused of giving 22 patients, some of whom weren't even diabetics, excessive doses of insulin.

Pressdee, the accused nurse, regularly gave insulin during understaffed overnight shifts, knowing that any ensuing emergencies wouldn't require immediate hospitalization.

Pressdee's nursing licence was suspended early last year after initial charges were brought, as a result of the tragic deaths of numerous patients shortly after receiving the insulin dose.

An excess of insulin can raise heart rate, result in hypoglycemia, and even trigger a heart attack. Most of the patients passed away either right away or later on after taking the dose.

She was disciplined, but she kept working in different nursing homes from 2018 until 2023, when her licence was revoked due to the original charges.

After a police investigation into her death of two patients in May of last year, she was charged with numerous additional crimes.

How did Heather Pressdee get caught?

Pressdee's crimes came into light when a referral in late 2022 was received by officials, regarding a patient under her care. Subsequently, a thorough investigation was conducted, uncovering multiple deaths due to Pressdee's actions.

According to Pennsylvania state records, Pressdee obtained her registered nurse licence on July 31, 2018, which was due to expire at the end of October 2023. The licence was renewed in August 2021 and was listed as active on the Pennsylvania Department of State website in May 2023 prior to Pressdee's arrest.

History of Abusive Behaviour

Beginning in 2018, Pressdee held a number of jobs at western Pennsylvania nursing homes and facilities for short periods, according to the documents. Before May 2023, Pressdee worked as a nurse at Quality Life Services.

Pressdee had a history of being “disciplined for abusive behaviour towards patients and/or staff at each facility resulting in her resigning or being terminated," prosecutors said in court documents.

“God Complex”

Victims' families told the court the killer nurse "tried to play God" with her ill and elderly patients who were not ready to die.

Pressdee at one time "truly believed" that "she was helping" her patients. However, now “she knows that that's not the case and she apologised for her actions," as per reports.

In the past, coworkers had flagged her conduct, saying she displayed hate for her patients and would often make derogatory comments about them.

In text messages to her mother, Pressdee discussed her unhappiness with patients, colleagues and even people she met at restaurants. She often spoke about wanting to harm them.

‘I am guilty’

In court, she pressed to plead guilty. When one of her lawyers asked her why she was pleading guilty, Pressdee replied, “Because I am guilty.” She answered most questions with a single word and said very little as she entered her entreaties.

According to news reports, Pressdee didn't look at the speakers or respond to their remarks, even after one yelled an expletive at her, which caused the courtroom gallery to erupt in applause.

"She is not sick. She is not insane. She is evil personified. I looked into the face of Satan myself the morning she killed my father," one of the victims' family members told the court.
