In the latest Henley Passport Index 2024, India has progressed to the 80th position, now shares the position with Uzbekistan. Previously India was at the 84th position.
Indian passport holders now enjoy visa-free access to 62 destinations, encompassing countries such as Bhutan, Thailand, Jordan, Malaysia, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, British Virgin Islands, Barbados and Indonesia.
Additionally, Indians can obtain visas on arrival in Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Maldives, Myanmar, Timor-Leste, Iran, Bolivia, Burundi, Cape Verde Islands, Comoro Islands, Djibouti, Gabon, Madagascar, Seychelles, Mauritania, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Samoa, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe, further expanding their travel options.
The top rank is currently shared by six nations, featuring European countries such as France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, along with Asian leaders Japan and Singapore.
The Henley Passport Index for 2024 ranking: Top 10
- France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, and Spain at the top spot, and has visa-free access to 194 countries.
- Finland, Sweden, and South Korea jointly hold the second position, providing visa-free entry to 193 destinations.
- Austria, Denmark, Ireland, and the Netherlands occupy the third position with unrestricted access to 192 destinations, eliminating the need for a visa.
- The United Kingdom has climbed two ranks to claim the fourth position, providing its passport holders with visa-free access to 191 destinations. Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal also at 4th position.
- Greece, Malta, Switzerland at No. 5
- Australia, Czechia, New Zealand, Poland at No. 6
- The United States shares the 7th spot with Canada and Hungary.
- Estonia, Lithuania takes the 8th spot
- Latvia, Slovakia, Slovenia at No. 9
- Iceland stands at the 10th position.
Despite Russia gaining 24 destinations in the past decade, its visa-free score and ranking have remained relatively constant since 2017. Presently, Russia holds the 51st position with access to 119 destinations, highlighting stability in its global mobility standing. india's neighbouring asian giant China’s Passport is at the 62nd Position.
Meanwhile, Pakistan, Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan dives at the bottom of the list, with limited visa-free access. The Pakistani passport ranks 101st, allowing travel to mere 34 countries visa-free. These countries include Dominica, Haiti, Micronesia, Qatar, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago and Vanuatu.
Pakistan is at 101, followed by Iraq at 102, Syria at 103, and Afghanistan at 104. Syrian and Afghani passports only have visa-free access to 29 and 28 countries, respectively.
