France's President Emmanuel Macron has received an invitation to be the special guest at India's Republic Day celebrations in 2024. This is the sixth time a French leader has been invited to this historic ceremony, which takes place at Kartavya Path on January 26, the day the Indian Constitution went into effect in 1950, ushering in the country's transition to a republic. India's action indicates the growing intimacy and confidence that the two nations have shared over time.
India uses its Republic Day celebrations as an opportunity to promote diplomatic relations and emphasize the power of its military forces. As was the case with the most recent Republic Day celebration, an impressive aspect of the occasion is anticipated to be an Air Show showcasing Rafale Jets, highlighting the significant defense collaboration between France and India.
It is noteworthy to remember that earlier this year, at the Paris Bastille Day Parade, India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, was the Guest of Honour.PM Modi had traveled to France earlier in July to witness the Bastille Day Parade. At President Macron's request, PM Modi attended the Bastille Day festivities as the Guest of Honour.

In honor of the 25th anniversary of the two nations' strategic cooperation, Prime Minister Modi traveled to France. According to a July PMO statement, "A 241-member tri-service Indian armed forces contingent led by a military band also participated in the Parade to mark the 25th anniversary of the India-France Strategic Partnership." The Rajputana Rifles Regiment provided support to the Punjab Regiment, which spearheaded the Indian Army force.
The Indian military contingent marched during the Bastille Day Parade to the patriotic song "Sare Jahan Se Accha," while an IAF Rafale fighter squadron performed a flypast over the Champs-Elysees. During the parade, Indian Air Force Rafale Jets from the 101 Squadron based in Hashimara participated in a flypast.

Later in September, French President Macron traveled to India to participate in the G20 Summit, which India was hosting as the host nation. On September 10, amid the G20 summit, President Macron and Prime Minister Modi had a bilateral meeting in Delhi. PM Modi stated after the meeting that they reaffirmed their determination to advance India-France relations to unprecedented levels. The two leaders urged for the Defense Industrial Roadmap to be finalized as soon as possible and reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing defense cooperation through collaboration in the planning and growth of production in India.
