Fog in China Claims 17 Lives, Prompts Travel Warnings and Safety Precautions

In the Jiangxi province of eastern China, a Sunday traffic collision resulted in 17 fatalities and 22 injuries. State broadcaster CCTV cited local authorities as saying that the accident resulted in 17 fatalities, 22 injuries, and the hospitalisation of the injured.

An hour after the news broke, Nanchang County traffic police advised drivers to avoid the region due to "foggy weather." It stated, "poor driving visibility; there is little visibility, which can easily cause traffic accidents."

A cloud-like mass known as the fog is created when airborne water vapour condenses into small water droplets close to the ground. Fog can occur in any location with suitable temperature and humidity conditions, and it is a common weather occurrence in many parts of the world, including China.

Fog can also impact air quality, as tiny water droplets can trap pollutants in the air and lead to smog formation. Fog can be caused by various factors, including the cooling of air as it comes into contact with cold surfaces, the evaporation of water from warm surfaces, and the movement of moist air over more frigid land or water.
