A 30-year-old Black man who often danced at the Times Square transport hub was killed on Monday by a passenger who put him in a chokehold on the New York City subway. The video footage displays the unnamed man struggling to break free by flailing his arms and kicking his legs. Sources identified the vagrant as Jordan Neely, and after he began behaving aggressively, a 24-year-old passenger intervened. Freelance journalist Juan Alberto Vazquez captured the video and shared it on his Facebook page "Luces de Nueva York".

According to the police, witnesses stated that the victim was displaying hostile and erratic behaviour towards other commuters on the train when he was confronted by a 24-year-old man, who proceeded to restrain him. Vazquez, in conversation with the media, recounted that the man began shouting aggressively, claiming he had neither food nor drink, that he was exhausted, and indifferent about being sent to jail. He also removed his black jacket and threw it on the ground while screaming all of these things.

According to Vazquez, the straphanger approached Neely from behind and placed him in a chokehold, keeping him restrained for roughly 15 minutes. Vazquez's video, which lasts around three and a half minutes, depicts the blonde commuter holding Neely's neck as they lay on the train floor. The train had halted, and the doors were open at the Broadway-Lafayette Street/Bleecker Street station where the conductor had requested emergency assistance.
According to police and law enforcement sources, Neely, who was homeless and had a mental health history, became unconscious after being restrained in a chokehold. EMS workers at the station tried to revive him but were unsuccessful. The straphanger who had restrained him, identified by sources as a Marine veteran, was apprehended but later released without being charged. Sources stated that the investigation is ongoing, and authorities are waiting for the autopsy report before determining whether to bring charges against the 24-year-old man.
