Former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki's 19-year-old son, Marco Troper, was found dead in his University of California, Berkeley dorm. Despite efforts by the Berkeley Fire Department, Troper was declared dead after a report of an unresponsive student at Clark Kerr dorms. Campus police say there is no evidence of foul play, but the cause of death remains unknown. Troper's grandmother, Esther Wojcicki, said that he may have overdosed on drugs.
"He took a drug, and we have no idea what was in it... Esther told the media, "We know one thing: It was a drug." The family is in great shock and awaiting a toxicology report to clarify the situation, which could take up to 30 days.
Troper, a freshman majoring in Mathematics, was described as a 'loving' and math genius. He was socially active, making close friends in his dorm at Stern Hall and joining the Zeta Psi fraternity. The family shared their sorrow on social platforms, with Esther Wojcicki recalling him as a 'kind, loving, smart, fun, and beautiful individual' and reminiscing about his lively time at Berkeley.
"Marco was the most kind, loving, smart, fun, and beautiful human being," Esther wrote on Facebook. Susan Wojcicki described her son as a kind, loving, intelligent, and beautiful young man who had just begun his second semester at UC Berkeley.
"He had a strong community of friends from his Stern Hall dorm and his fraternity Zeta Psi, and he was doing well in school. At home, he'd tell us endless stories about his life and Berkeley friends. Marco died far too soon. And we are all devastated, thinking about all of the opportunities and life experiences he will miss and those we will miss together. PEOPLE quoted Wojcicki as saying, "Marco, we all love you and more than you will ever know.
According to the Business Today Report, Susan Wojcicki announced her resignation from YouTube in a blog post in February of last year. She stated that she now intends to prioritize her family, health, and personal projects. Her announcement came after Neal Mohan took over as YouTube's senior vice president and head.
Wojcicki stated that she agreed with Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai to take on an advisory role for Google and Alphabet in the long run. "This will allow me to call on my different experiences over the years to offer counsel and guidance across Google and the portfolio of Alphabet companies," she said in a statement.
