A student from Dubai created an app to teach young people about sustainability. He added fun games to encourage his friends to live in a more eco-friendly way. Arnav Kedia, a Grade 11 student at GEMS World Academy, Dubai, designed this app as part of the sustainable tech industry, aiming to inspire other young individuals to adopt an eco-friendly lifestyle. The app collects points from users and gives them prizes as a reward for their efforts. It uses image analysis to identify when people participate in positive actions like recycling, using eco-friendly transportation, and doing other eco-conscious activities, which allows them to earn virtual points. Arnav, who deeply cares about the cause, says that from his own experience and research, he has noticed that many people are still not fully aware of the serious consequences for humanity due to a small increase in global temperatures.
Arnav believes that his startup has great potential for success because he recognizes that humans are naturally motivated to achieve goals and make progress. He thinks this inherent drive can be harnessed to achieve sustainability goals. According to Arnav, people love competition and feel excited when they achieve new levels in video games. He suggests that by bringing this competitive and immersive element to sustainability efforts, we can engage young people globally in environmental issues.
