Deforestation in Amazon Forest: About 4 Times the Size of Manhattan Destroyed in a Month

Amazon Deforestation

The Amazon rainforest, which is quite often referred to as the Earth's Lungs, has had a rough couple of years.

And government data related on Friday proves how badly the first has suffered in a single month.

There is no doubt that ex-President  Jair Bolsonaro’s presidency was not kind to the amazon forest. Reports state that his plans for development hugely affected the amazon rainforest.

The ex-President  allowed farmers to be given free reign to destroy the forest without consequences. Not only that, but he also allowed farming and mining in the protected areas of amazon forest to “combat poverty”.

The ex-President  even scrapped the funding for environmental organisations, limiting them and their continuous efforts to help the forest.

New President , Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva took charge of the office just last week and since then has already initiated various policies and decrees to stop deforestation.

Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was the one who started “The Amazon Funds” during his last time running the office. And as soon as he took charge of the presidency he reinstated the funds.

President   Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has already made his aim to stop deforestation in the Amazon by 2030. People of Brazil and the world have high expectations from his Presidency.
