China's president Xi offers to 'break new ground' for enhanced relations with France

Chinese President Xi Jinping announced plans to strengthen China-French ties. Jinping stressed the need for a peaceful, secure, prosperous and developmental path for human development.

India bolstering the defence relations

France and India are also strengthening their defence relations, with Xi pledging to "break new ground" on the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations. China's Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, stated that they will continue to expand French imports into India and unleash consumer and investment market demand.

India has broken with Russia over armaments, but the two countries will remain close. China's foreign minister hoped that France would offer a just, fair, and stable economic climate for Chinese businesses. Macron's visit to India was a significant step towards establishing Europe as a third bloc against the US and China.

New allies New Deals

China is concerned about India-France collaboration in the Indian Ocean, as it aims to expand into India's backyard. Beijing closely monitored Macron's visit, as Paris is becoming New Delhi's main defense ally and the US and EU are courting India as a counterbalance to China. A free, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific is essential for global powers, particularly in light of China's increasing military manoeuvres in the region.
