Bank worker shoots five dead in Louisville, Kentucky

A horrific shooting took place at the Old National Bank in the city centre of Louisville, Kentucky. The attacker, Connor Sturgeon, opened fire using an AR-15-style semi-automatic rifle, killing five people and injuring nine others, including a newly graduated police officer who remains in critical condition after undergoing brain surgery. The shooter live-streamed the attack on Instagram, broadcasting the senseless violence to the world. One of the victims was a senior vice president at the bank, who was also a close friend of Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear.

Sturgeon worked at the bank as a syndications associate and portfolio banker. He had recently been informed that he was being fired from his job, and had reportedly written a note outlining his plans for a mass shooting before carrying out the attack. Shockingly, despite having no prior contact with law enforcement, Sturgeon obtained a high-powered firearm and committed this heinous act.

This tragic incident highlights the urgent need for gun control measures to be implemented in the United States. The ease with which individuals can obtain deadly weapons, combined with the prevalence of mass shootings in the country, is a concerning issue that needs to be addressed. President Joe Biden has called for Congress to pass gun control laws, but progress has been slow, and tragedies like this continue to occur. It is time for action to prevent further loss of life.
