Australia fines Meta $14M for breaching user privacy data

Federal Court of Australia has ordered the owner of Facebook Meta, to pay a hefty fine of 20 million Australian dollars, for collecting information from the user's via an app, without appropriate consent prior to the application opens.The now discontinued company Onavo, is also ordered to pay the fine amount of four hundred thousand Australian dollars, to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. 

This is the 2nd time Meta is facing a lawsuit by Australia. Previously in the year 2016, Cambridge Analytica from Australia,  filed a lawsuit against Meta, for illegal retention of information for which Meta is facing a civil court action till now. 

Further information on the involvement of any other company is still being investigated.
