The first earthquake struck turkey and Syria on 6th February 2023. According to the latest figures, more than 50’000 people have died.
WFP Executive Director, David Beasley visited turkey and described the scenes by saying, "There is only one way to describe what I saw today: apocalyptic."
"Entire neighborhoods have been flattened; homes destroyed, schools and shops closed; lives torn apart. The scale of devastation here is truly incomprehensible," he added.
He has ordered to remove all restrictions between Turkey and Syria and has ordered urgently providing food supplies to Syria. Food is being supplied to Syria through all routes without any restrictions. He has called for "all parties to facilitate access".
