By defying social expectations and her own health issues, 38-year-old Michigan woman Erin Honeycutt set a new record for the longest beard on a live woman. Her polycystic ovarian syndrome, a condition that can lead to hormonal imbalances and excessive hair growth, is what gave Honeycutt her record-breaking 11.8-inch beard.
Honeycutt started on the path that led to this unique accomplishment when she was only 13 years old. At first, she tried shaving up to three times a day, waxing, and using hair-removal tools to control her growing beard. But after a high blood pressure-caused eye stroke caused her to lose part of her vision, she stopped shaving and let her beard grow out. Her wife, Jen, pushed her to do this.
Honeycutt broke the record set by 75-year-old Vivian Wheeler, whose beard was 10.04 inches long, on February 8, 2023. Even though Honeycutt had a lot of health problems, including a bacterial attack that caused the lower half of one of her legs to be cut off, she was able to do this.
Even with all of these problems, Honeycutt keeps a positive outlook on life because she believes it helps her heal. She says that her strength comes from her positive outlook and the help of her family and friends. She is proud of her record-breaking beard, which she sees as a sign of her strength and determination.
