Afghanistan is reeling at -27 degrees, Cold wave takes 157 lives

Afghanistan is facing a deadly cold wave, with temperatures dropping to -27 degrees Celsius. The prolonged cold weather has already taken the lives of 157 people in the country, and thousands more are facing life-threatening conditions.

The intense cold has resulted in the closure of schools, roads, and other public facilities in many areas, leaving people with limited access to food, water, and medical aid. The government is struggling to deliver relief to those affected, but the extreme weather conditions are making it difficult for aid groups to reach them.

The situation has been further exacerbated by the lack of adequate shelter and basic amenities such as heating, electricity and water. Many of the people affected by the cold wave are already impoverished and lack the means to protect themselves from the harsh winter.

The cold wave is likely to remain in place for the foreseeable future, and it is essential for the government, aid groups, and the international community to step up and provide relief and assistance to the people of Afghanistan.

Afghanistan is prone to several types of extreme weather events such as droughts, floods, dust storms, and extreme temperatures. These events can have a significant impact on the country's agriculture, infrastructure, and population. Climate change is also likely to exacerbate these risks in the future.
