A wildfire emergency is declared in the Canadian province of Alberta

Alberta, a province in western Canada, declared a state of emergency after wildfires scorched the region and drove more than 25,000 people from their homes.Following the outbreak of more than 100 wildfires, Alberta's Premier Danielle Smith referred to the situation as "unprecedented."

In the town of Edson, there are more than 8,000 people, and they have been told to go immediately. They were warned to leave right away because Edson is home to more than 8,000 people. According to Ms. Smith, a hot, dry spring had produced "so much kindling" that it had already resulted in the burning of 122,000 hectares (301,000 acres).

Several of the fires are blazing out of control due to strong winds.Fox Lake, some 550 kilometers north of the city, where 20 homes were burned to the ground, and Drayton Valley, which is situated around 140 kilometers (87 miles) west of the provincial capital Edmonton, are the areas most severely hit.

The federal government has pledged aid from Ottawa and dispatched air tankers and firefighting helicopters. More than 1,000 evacuees are being housed at the Edmonton Expo Centre, while a curling rink in the village of High Level is being converted into a temporary shelter.
