A strong 5.0 earthquake rattles northern and central Iran

Iran was rocked by an earthquake of magnitude 5.0, the US geological agency reported on October 31. The epicentre of the earthquake was located at 32.05 degrees north latitude and 59.76 degrees east longitude. The earthquake struck 103 kilometres SSE of Birjand at 0913 GMT.

Iran was shaken by an earthquake of magnitude 5.3 on Sunday, October 15, according to the Seismology Centre at Tehran University. The town of Moshrageh in the province of Khuzestan's Ramshir served as the earthquake's epicentre.The earthquake struck at 14:45 (GMT 1115) and 13 kilometres (8 miles) below the surface. Only a few hours had passed since a strong 6.3 earthquake rocked neighbouring Afghanistan, leaving hundreds of people injured and at least one dead.
