68 million people pushed into poverty in Asia

We know that COVID-19 made life hard for many people, especially for about 70 million people in Asia who had been reduced to living in extreme poverty last year.

A recent report suggests that about 155.2 million people (3.9%) in Asia and the Pacific faced extreme poverty in 2022. Extreme poverty means that these people were living on $2.17 or ₹177 per day.

Although countries in Asia and the Pacific have come a long way since the pandemic ended, the increased cost of living has made it extremely hard for these countries to improve their poverty numbers.
