During a gruelling procedure, Chinese doctors retrieved more than 60 live worms from a patient's eyes. According to the Sources, the woman, whose identity has not been published, had itchy eyes that worsened when she saw a parasitic worm fall out after massaging her eyes to soothe the tingling sensation. She was afraid, and she was transported to a neighbouring hospital in Kunming, China.
Doctors were astounded to uncover live worms in the area between her eyeballs and eyelids during an examination. They extracted almost 40 live worms from her right eye and over ten from her left. According to the Mirror, the physicians extracted more than 60 parasites from the woman's eye.
Dr. Guan, who operated, stated that the patient was an uncommon case due to the abnormally large quantity of parasites. According to the Daily Express US, doctors suspect the woman was afflicted with Filarioidea roundworms, which are normally transmitted by fly bites.
Because there may be residual larvae left behind, doctors have advised the woman to return for regular check-ups. Doctors also advised her to wash her hands promptly after touching dogs.
Several roundworm species have been observed settling on the conjunctiva of the eye. They are more frequently seen in Africa than in China. They are normally connected with inflammation, but in rare situations, they can cause blindness.
