$2.04 billion Lottery: Someone just won the Powerball Jackpot in the U.S.

By beating the odds and becoming the 1 out of the 292.2 million, the highly anticipated Powerball Jackpot was won by someone in the US. The winning price is two billion dollars, and well someone just got lucky!

According to the California Lottery, the identity of the winner has not been revealed yet. The winner bought the lottery ticket from a gas station in Los Angeles. The store owner, Joe Chahayed, also received a maximum Powerball bonus of $1 million.

The winning person is the sole owner of the amount of 2.04 billion dollars and the winning lottery number was 0-33-41-47-56-Power 10. The Powerball Jackpot was delayed on Monday night by several hours due to some security protocols. And the drawing took place on Tuesday at 7:27 pm (IST), in Tallahassee, Florida.

The Powerball Jackpot started on the 6th of August and no one managed to win it in the past few draws. According to Reuters, if the winner selects a lump of a cash payout, the value after the tax deductions would be $997.6 million. And to take home the price of $2 billion one would need to select the annuity of 29 years.

Powerball is an interstate lottery system that is played in the 45 American states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. The lottery game starts with a value of 40 million dollars and whenever there is no winner, the value increases by 10 million. Powerball is a lottery game that consists of two drums with balls in them.

One of the drums is used for a white ball and the other one for a red “Power” ball which gives a name to the lottery. The drawings are made on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. The winning numbers of the game are announced on television, and the Powerball website, in newspapers, and online. To win the jackpot the winner must match all the white balls plus the red Powerball.

With no assurance that the jackpot will be awarded in every drawing if no one picks a number then the jackpot rolls over to the next drawing increasing the value. Each ticket costs up to 2 to 3 dollars or Rs. 165.
