If you have been on social media in the last two days, you might have seen people being divided on Starbucks. Now, if you are wondering whether it's on the quality or the cost of the coffee in there, you would be wrong. The whole online battle between people supporting the hashtag I support Starbucks and the ones tweeting the hashtag boycott Starbucks is over an ad that was released a day back.
The ad tells the story of a person who went from Arpit to Arpita, and how their parents support their decision. While the ad is clearly made to have a positive inclusive impact on society, with a very clear message to embrace an LGBTQA+ person's own choice of gender; this has turned out to be a bone of contention for some far-right groups, who think this is against the Indian culture. And thus, another log has been thrown over the boycott fire, which seems to be a trend that's not dying down.
While we at Vygr understand that marketers have always gone for a social adoption of trendy causes, we also support & respect someone's personal choice. But do let us know which side of this argument are you, what you think of these boycott trends, and if they make any difference in the way you view a brand or its products.
