Railway authorities want to sequentially number the train platforms on the Central Railway (CR) and Western Railway (WR) parts of the station to reduce misunderstandings among commuters changing trains at Dadar.
There are a total of 15 platforms at Dadar station, with 7 in the WR part and 8 in the CR part. These comprise the platforms used by long-distance trains that start and stop at Dadar station.
"Passengers often get confused because of duplication in because of duplication in the numbering of platforms on CR and WR," CR's divisional manager, Mumbai division, Rajneesh Goyal said. According to the plan, platforms first to seventh on WR would remain unchanged, while platforms 1 through 8 on CR will become platforms 8 to 15. As a result, platform 1 will turn into 8, platform 2 into 9, and so on.
Goyal further said, "This will take some time for implementation as changes will have to be made not only on the indicators but also the systems so that there is no confusion when it actually comes into effect."
The CR part of Dadar station receives over five lakh visitors per day. It manages 226 quick local trains, half of which are headed towards Kalyan. 25 long-distance trains also run from station number four. According to authorities, Platform 1-2 alone manages 240 suburban slow services.
