Mumbai City finally received the monsoon on June 24. Additionally, the weather department has issued a yellow alert for the city. Previously, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted that the monsoon season would reach Mumbai on June 24. As per reports, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for June 26 to 27, indicating the likelihood of heavy rain in isolated areas of the city and its adjacent regions.During the initial month of the season, Mumbai experienced a significant shortfall in rainfall. Typically, the monsoon officially commences in Mumbai around June 10 or 11. Previously, the Skymet weather agency had projected that the monsoon would reach Mumbai by June 27, indicating a potentially delayed arrival compared to previous years. The agency also forecasted heavy rainfall for a period of 2-3 days starting on June 27 and continuing until the end of the month.

In 2009, Mumbai experienced a similar delay in the monsoon season, with the arrival of the monsoon recorded on June 27. This delay was attributed to the occurrence of El Niño. The phenomenon of El Niño was also responsible for delayed monsoons in the years 2012, 2014, and 2015. Despite fulfilling all the necessary conditions for rainfall, Mumbai did not receive its typical monsoon showers this year. The arrival of the monsoon in Kerala was further postponed due to the impact of Cyclone Biparjoy. A previous report from the Times of India highlighted that the city had only received 5 per cent of the required rainfall in June. The report mentioned that Mumbai had received a mere 17.9mm of rainfall out of the expected 342.1mm for the month, based on the data provided by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The average rainfall for June, as per IMD's Santacruz observatory, is recorded at 526.3mm.
