Local taxi drivers who work for Benaulim hotels and resorts have expressed dissatisfaction with GoaMiles' operations, especially the pick-up and drop-off service.
Local taxi drivers raised concerns during the discussion earlier this week that the app's cab drivers were picking up and dropping off customers unlawfully. The meeting was organized by the local MLA Venzy Viegas.
“We had raised some issues regarding the pick and drop service of GoaMiles. And after discussion, there has been a solution not to allow pickup or drop without a proper OTP or to stay around the area without any legal notification or proof that they have the permission,” said a taxi driver.
Elaborating on the issue, Viegas said, “There are illegal pick up and drop offs that are going on with GoaMiles. Their drivers drop the customer, log off from their app and stay at the location, and then pick up the same guest without OTP.”
The necessity for an answer to the problem of picking up visitors from hotels where the local taxi drivers are already affiliated was also discussed.
“There are traditional taxi drivers who are associated with the hotel or resort. We have asked GoaMiles to come up with a solution of the digitization kind by keeping everyone in mind,” he added.
According to current "mutual agreements," he claimed that cab drivers from villages only go within their immediate surroundings.
“There are some unwritten procedures where say a taxi driver from Mobor will not go to another area to pick up guests. They have a mutual agreement among all the taxi drivers. GoaMiles must learn this sort of mutual understanding and they should also work mutually with the traditional taxi drivers. They should not come into the commercial hotel area where the local taxi drivers are already there. They can cater to the other local crowd,” said Viegas.
